If you don’t know where you are, how can you know where you are going?
I began the year 2016 with a focus on fitness, fat loss and learning the truth of performance and progress.
Somewhere along the way I forgot (again) the learnings of January/February which was “What gets measured improves” Robin Sharma.
Each day I was running or doing my exercises I was measuring the times/distances etc and by the end of a month, 60 and 90 days had a good measure of where I had begun and where I was now. It takes patience and persistence to do this and to do it well and and clearly, these are two areas of my life that require improvement.
And so, during the month of Truth, I find myself reflecting on the year that was (being that it’s almost the last month of the year) and thinking about the coming year that can be!
When I think about thriving, healing and evolving I wonder, how do we know we are actually achieving these things?
And the answer is – baseline.
You have to know where you are starting from, I think it’s as important as knowing where it is you want to go to (goals).
When I was food coaching I would always take clients measurements…weight, height, body measurements, fat, acidity and I would get them to get baseline bloods done too – so we knew exactly what was going on. This gives us two things…it provides the beginning, so you can track progress/changes/regression AND it provides the priority areas that require urgent or immediate attention and also helps show any patterns so you can ‘hack’ progress with single solutions.
I was reminded of this again when I went and did a bio-feedback session that gave me a cellular analysis of what was going on in my body.
It was really insightful (I highly recommend this!).
It provided us with an overall picture of my internal health (and what wasn’t so good…which, interestingly enough, were directly linked to the niggling and unexplained symptoms I had been feeling). The practitioner was able to look at all the data she was presented and then give me a couple of simple supplementary solutions that would make a difference to all the areas (rather than looking at them in isolation of each other).
She essentially ‘hacked’ my pathway to healthier insides…and outsides!
I love that.
‘the truth will set you free’ sprang to mind as I walked out with my piece of paper and the short list of things that will help me improve my quality of life!
my exact words to her were ‘where have you been all my life’.
I now have a baseline set of data that we can refer back to as I continue to supplement…and we can see the progress of healing!
I remember feeling the same way when I became open to the healing of the mind and spirit after more than a decade of only focusing on my body and when I saw for the first time I saw my whole financial picture.
Where has the TRUTH been all my life?
The truth is..I’ve been AFRAID of the truth.
Each time life get’s rough you have a choice – face the truth or avoid it.
I have often chosen avoidance.
But honestly…when I face it with radical responsibility…life gets really pretty amazing!!!
But you have to face the truth – and you MUST, without question, get the baseline.
Know where you are.
Get the data. Face the facts. Build the team around you that can help you get them.
And then….get hacking!
Take the action and be moved in your own life to make the most of it!
And most of all, have fun!
After-all, once you know where you are – you can change it!
